Below is the description of one of the jobs we have undertaken.

Scenario:
Company A (a freight forwarding firm with regional offices located in all parts of the world) implementing a large database system to their corporate network. They have their own IT engineer but he is not familiar with the implementation.
[To protect the company we are using as an example from competitors, we have decided not to use their company name although they have kindly agreed to let us publicise it]

What Happened:
Supplying Company who is supplying both hardware and software made a proposal, to the tune of $500,000.00, with a big potential of hitting $1,000,000.00.

Not knowing whether they should go through such implementation, Company A came to us asking for advise.

After studying the requirements and operations of Company A, we sat down with the Directors of the company and made some proposals.

From the supplying company's proposal, we mark away many unnecessary and irrelevant hardware and also some of the software modules.

We also struck out the proposed obsolete servers the supplying company has proposed and recommended the installations of up-to-date servers.

We further proposed to the Company A the use of servers, operating software etc. Also liaise with supplying company on exactly what is required by Company A.

We went one step further to assist Company A in getting familiar with the supplied hardware/software (we do not have any prior operating knowledge of the software installed, we learnt the software as we went along)

In the end, the implementation costs was reduced to about $350,000.00 with our fees included.

However, we do stressed that the supplying company has no ill intentions whatsoever in quoting Company A the original sum. It is because they (supplying company) do not understand the operations and requirements of Company A, and Company A on their side, do not know what is required exactly.

In this scenario, Company A could have easily wasted large sum of monies by implementing something which they do not need. We are glad to have helped them saved the money as well.
